ART TRIP TO NEWGRANGE

One early Thursday morning the Art students, Ms. Burns, the Music students,
Ms. Kavanagh and I, went down to Dublin City Centre on the bus and
then up to Newgrange in Co. Meath. We left the school at about 8am that
morning.
In Dublin, we saw the interior of St. Patricks Cathedral. It was a very interesting
place, but not as interesting as the most famous 5,000 year-old passage
tomb in Ireland situated in near the River Boyne! Before we got the short bus
ride to the tomb, my Art teacher gave the Art students a question about the
passage tomb. We used the interpretive centre to understand what we were
about to discover! The tour guide brought us down the narrow passage
tomb. I thought it would be bigger at first, but no I was wrong. I wondered
why those people so long ago were such great architects and why they built
such a magnificent structure for their dead. My most shocking discovery
was that there was modern day graffiti incised (scratched) on the slabs of
these ancient stones! There is now a security guard on patrol at night to
watch out for more possible intruders.

After the early morning departure, two visits to places of significant historical
interest, I was surely going to be dreaming of a world far beyond what we
know now and I was wrecked!
