Multi-Cultural Week

On the week of September 19, 2016, students of different ethnic
backgrounds got the chance to speak about their culture to other students
       in the school.
The schoolroom was set up with different cultural stands. Students
from different years gathered information, brought food, dressed up
and brought in items related to their country. Many students created a
       presentation about their family’s country.

As the students visited each stand they learnt new information about
other cultures. At the Nigerian stand, students tasted Nigerian food such
       as Milo.
Tosin Elegbede dressed up in a traditional dress called an Ankara. Beverly
Ikwunwa wore a traditional South African dress and did a demonstration
of their cultural face paint. It was a successful day for all students. Three
different families came in to speak about their cultural to some students
in the school. Jodie and Esther’s granny spoke about Nigeria, Beverly’s
Dad spoke about South Africa and Judie’s parents spoke about China and
kindly made dumplings for everyone to taste. Some of the students made
posters for cultural week. While others participated in cultural sports for
P.E such as the Haka and some played Boules.
Sameera Umar from Pakistan came into
the school to do a cookery demonstration
for the second years, who got to sample
       the food afterwards.

Over the years we have found that
students really enjoy this week as it
gives them a chance to learn more about
the different cultures, their food and
traditions and helps them to become
       more understanding of each other.
