Girls’ Junior Table Tennis TABLE TENNIS
2017 turned out to be a quiet year for table tennis in the
Royal School. In 2016 we won 3 out of 6 Ulster Titles with the
Senior Girls team runner up in All Ireland. The Senior Boys
finished third after a fantastic 5-3 victory over the Munster
Champions from Cork. Also both Joshua Hall and Hannah
Lynch-Dawson win their individual Ulster Titles to complete
a good for the school.
However, following the loss of key players like Joshua,
Hannah, Rachel Hall and the McConkey sisters (to name but
a few) had a big impact on the team this year. While we were
competitive in the boys’ championship we were no match
for Malone College in the Ulster Championship. Despite the
best efforts of Stephen Stewart, Robert Matthews, David
Nzewi, Andrew Hall, James Graham and William Ebbitt we
relinquished our title. The senior girls were going for a five
Back Row (L-R): Grace Komolafe, Charley Flint, Mr Patterson, Katie
Dunne in a row but lost a very tight final to Ballyclare Academy on
Front Row (L-R): Lydia McConkey, Jodie Chapman, Emma Bell a 5-4 score line. The team included Lydia McConkey, Jodie
Chapman, Judy Gao, Katie Dunne, Grace Komolafe and
Charley Flint. Our U15 girls also reached the final before
tasting defeat. The individual titles will take place in April
where we hope to take home some silverware. Already
we are looking to 2018 where every effort will be made to
reclaim some of our titles.
