KILLARY ADVENTURE CENTRE
We arrived in Killary Adventure Centre in Connemara, on the 8th of November 2016,
after a four hour bus journey. Everybody settled in their rooms and instructors told us
the activities we would be participating in as we got to know them.
Later on that day we had lunch and afterwards everybody prepared themselves for the
5k walk that evening. On our walk we each got to navigate our way around the beautiful
landscape. When we returned from the 5k walk, we had our dinner and got ready for
evening activities. We did a broom challenge and went to the dome to play dodgeball.
On Wednesday, we had our breakfast then we were split into four groups .We completed
outside activities such as high ropes and the giant swing. The groups rotated to be able
to do each activity. We spent around two hours doing outdoor activities. Afterwards we
all walked back to Killary Centre to eat our lunch. After eating our lunch we walked back
to continue our activities. After all our activities were finished, we made our way back
to the Killary Centre. Everybody had a break for around an hour, then we had our dinner
and we got dessert that evening. During our evening activities, we did a cereal box
challenge and the table turning challenge. After we went to the dome and we played
dodgeball and football.
On Thursday, we had our breakfast and packed our lunch for the 20k walk. We were split
into two groups and we went in different directions. We walked from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.
During the walk, we saw different mountain features and our instructors questioned us
on our knowledge of these features. We stopped half way for a break and had our lunch.
Then we continued walking, we returned back to the centre at 5 p.m. We then had a
break for an hour until dinner. For our evening activities, we did the “spoon “, “cop-on”
and the “Weetabix” challenges. We then had a bonfire and sang songs.
On Friday morning, after breakfast we
did the bog challenge, which included
various obstacle courses in the bog.
After our enjoyable, fun-packed
activities throughout the couple of days
we packed for home. It was a wonderful
experience that everyone enjoyed.
