Green Schools
In the Royal School we have set up a Green Schools Committee with the aim of attaining our first Green Flag – Litter and
Waste. Ms McElwaine and Ms Burns along with a group of 25 hardworking students who make up the committee, are trying
to make some changes to help us recycle as much as possible and become more aware of what we can do, in school and at
home, to be more ‘green’. The following are some of the changes we have made:
o New recycling bins for plastic bottles and cans o Tree planting – 6 trees supplied by Cavan County Council
to celebrate ‘National Tree Week’
o Recycling of printer cartridges – raising funds for Oxfam
Ireland o Competitions to raise awareness of the environment and
recycling
o Recycling of used stamps – raising funds for the Irish
Peatland Conservation Council o We plan to have activities to partake in the ‘National
Spring Clean’ and ‘Earth Day’
o Two ‘Textiles Days’ for recycling of used clothing, bed
linen or curtains
