My Experience Of Killary
DAY 1
We got on the bus at our school at 8:30 and drove from Cavan to
Killary in West Galway. Although it was a long journey we were all very
excited and the time passed quickly. Killary lodge is located beside
Ireland’s biggest fiord, according to Mr.Robertson (and its only fiord).
That afternoon we went kayaking and we built rafts and raced
them. Most of us managed to stay dry but a few couldn’t keep their
kayak under control and ended up in the water!! Raft building was
interesting; we had a wide range of materials to build our rafts with
such as barrels, planks of wood and ropes so we had to really try hard
to get our rafts to float. The evening was spent playing games which
were fun and quite a lot of us managed to make fools of ourselves.
DAY 2
After breakfast the next day we went for a 16 kilometre hike around
the mountains. The hike started off along the road but it went up hill
half way through. For the second leg of the hike it was through the
mountains and it was very muddy. We were all tired after our long day
trekking around the mountain.
DAY 3
The next day took in a range of activities, the giant swing, rock
climbing and abseiling. The giant swing was really scary. I didn’t go
abseiling because it was very high and I was nervous. Then we went
to play laser tag and I fell into a bog hole. That night we had a mock
pageant where we crowned somebody ‘Miss Killary 2012.’ It was a lot
of fun and an enjoyable way to spend our last evening at the lodge.
DAY 4
On our final day we went on a 6 mile hike and when we got back we
got straight on the bus to go home. We stopped in McDonalds on
the way home in Longford. While there, we sang Happy Birthday to
Mr. Robertson who was quite happy with his party hat and birthday
muffin. We were all exhausted when we got back to the school after
four long days of activities. Over all we had a great time and everyone
thoroughly enjoyed themselves!!
