SOCCER Senior Boys Soccer

          SENIOR SOCCER

A year that started out full of promise,
ended in disappointment as our senior
team crashed out of both the league and
cup. Our campaign started brightly with
a good performance against St. Patricks
of Cavan, followed by a win away to
Monaghan Collegiate. This set us up
for a winners take in our clash against
          Carrickmacross in the league semi-final.
A very tight and entertaining game took
          place between two evenly matched
teams. Both sides created chances to
win the game but it remained scoreless
until the 81st minute. Then a goalmouth
scramble led to the winning goal scored Back Row (L-R): Dylan Nugent, Mr Plunkett, David Nzewi, Michael McKeon-Boyle, Killian
by the Monaghan team. The last ten Tubman, Stuart Bell, William Ebbitt
minutes were hectic as we pushed for an Middle Row (L-R): Ciarán Flynn, Robert Matthews, Isaac Wilson, John Clarke, Colin Dugdale
Front Row (L-R): Osama Aziz, Aaron Heaslip, Michael Nzewi, Andrew McNally, Tiwani Akinlabi
equaliser but it was not to be.
The Ulster Cup semi-final was away to Castleblayney we crashed out of the competition. Early season injuries
vocational school. We went back hopeful of a win but to Adam Chan and Evan O’Connor weakened our chances
some chaotic defending put an end to our chances. Despite of success but all in all a disappointing end to our season.
scoring three goals, we managed to concede four and so However there is always next year!
                                                                                                      Mr Plunkett

          U16 SOCCER

The U16 football season was a mixture U16 Boys Soccer
of results this season. Long term injuries
and TY commitments meant that we
were without some key players for
parts of the season. Training was held
on Tuesday evenings in school and was
well attended for the earlier part of the
          season.
          Royal 4 – 3 St. Bricin’s Belturbet
The first match pitted us against St.
          Bricin’s, Belturbet. We were without
some senior members of the squad,
but we acquitted ourselves well and
          were reasonably comfortable winners
          against a determined Belturbet side.

We started the game very brightly and
a quick goal from Andrew McNally and
a brace from early substitute Joshua
Ajayi put us 3-0 up early on. St. Bricin’s Back Row (L-R): Joshua Ajayi, Dylan Nugent, Michael McKeon-Boyle, Andrew McNally, Kelly
pulled one back before the break to Eguakun Middle Row (L-R): Tobi Sonaike, Michael-James Metcalfe, Jamie Eccleston, Aaron
keep in the game. Belturbet threatened Heaslip, Fredrick Elliot, Craig Elliott, Colin Dugdale, Kelvin McNally
to come back stronger in 2nd half and Front Row (L-R): Christopher Elliott, Adam Dunne, Mark Stewart, Stuart Smyth, Adam Pringle
did make it 3-2 before Joshua Ajayi was
taken down in the box and up stepped
Kelvin McNally to drill home the penalty to make the game Royal School Cavan: Michael McKeon Boyle, Michael
safe. James Metcalfe, Adam Dunne, Colin Dugdale, Craig Ebbitt,
Stuart Smyth, Mark Stewart, Aaron Heaslip, Dylan Nugent,
The Royal did concede a late consolation goal at the death, Kelvin McNally, Andrew McNally. Subs: Joshua Ajayi,
but saw the game out comfortably in the end. Christopher Elliott, Fredrick Elliot, Adam Pringle, Jamie
