The Royal School Gets A New Crest
For 400 Year Anniversary
As the Royal School marks their 400 Year anniversary,
there is a new piece of history being unveiled. The
school ran a competition open to students, to create
a new crest that would be used on years to come on
uniforms, stationary and all school items. The winners
of this completion were Gavin Arneill and Ruth Lowry,
2 former sixth year pupils.
The new crest is quite unique. The designers said that
“The Griffin is a royal symbol; it’s both a lion and an
eagle. The rising sun holds the date 1611, the year
the school was set up, as it rises over the drumlins,
referencing to both the beginning of the school at that
time and the landscape which Cavan is famous for.” At
the bottom on the crest there is a banner that holds
the Latin phrase ‘ad vitam Paramus’ which means ‘we
are preparing for life’. This aptly sums up the schools
mission statement.
