LIFE AS A BOARDER
As we reflect on our six years in the boarding house of the Royal School
Cavan, we can honestly say that there have been gradual changes that
have made boarding life memorable. The most remarkable change of all
occurred over the summer holidays last year.
When we returned from the well-deserved break, we were astounded
to meet newly transformed dorms. For us personally, this was amazing
to witness as after five years of being in this school, we found there was
a more welcoming and homely environment. We were overjoyed to
return to a rejuvenated scene. The warm coloured walls and soft carpets
provided a cosier atmosphere. We were provided with more personal
space and enjoyed more privacy. This made it easier to endure five
laborious days away from home.
Our mornings were brightened by the daily reminder on the bathroom
wall that ‘being yourself is the prettiest thing you can be’ .
We always looked forward to Miss Argue tucking us in at night and Mrs
Hunter’s enthusiastic greetings in the morning reminding us ‘it’s Friday!’ .
I can still hear the echoes of Ms Bradshaw’s voice hurrying us up to
assembly. It will prove difficult for us to forget Mr Kingston’s amusing
‘jokes’ as he encourages us that ‘we will survive’ . Words cannot explain
how grateful we are for the kitchen staff who ensured that we got our
five a day, along with the odd treat of course (thanks PJ!)
We have no doubt that we will miss these years shared with friends that
have almost become like family. As we bid the school farewell, we can
only hope that moving on to university is as smooth a transition as it was
walking into the school in 2011, with our Cinderella bed sheets.
