                                          Radio programme

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Royal School Cavan, Cavan Community
Radio (97.4 FM) came together with five transition year pupils to make a radio
                       show for the celebrations.
Cavan Community Radio is a locally based radio station which began its first
transmissions around 1982 to the Cavan area as well as further afield. In 2008 CCR
got a 30 day broadcasting licence and has been very successful so far. For the most
part of its life CCR studios has been located above Musicland (now Multisound)
record store on Main Street in Cavan town. It is now located in the industrial offices
                       in Cavan.

The show was part of a programme that is involved with the Cavan Community
Forum to gain interest in radio and to help develop different skills amongst
transition year pupils from the secondary schools in Cavan town. It is funded by
the IFI (International Fund for Ireland) and is hoped to run for the next few years.

The show was aimed to let people know why there were such celebrations going
on for the Royal School and for people who know little about the school and its
heritage. The five students working on the programme; Emmeline Cosnett, Tolayo
Akinlabi, Meabh O’ Reagan, Aisling Kells and Katie Brady came up with the contents
of the show and did all the interviews and editing. It took a week and a half to
complete the show and Eimear Crowe who works at CCR was extremely helpful
                       with her advice and experience.
The final result was definitely worth the ups and downs as the programme was
launched on Friday the 30th of September and received a great response. The
interviews included some history of the school and where and why it was originally
built. It also focused a lot on the present day ethos of the school and on the new
crest that was designed by two past pupils especially for the 400 years celebration
                       of the Royal.

The students involved were very grateful to all the people in CCR and for all the
help given with the programme. All in all the radio programme was a definite
success and hopefully there will be more like it in the future to come.

                                                                                   Emmeline Cosnett
