Cheerios ChildLine breakfast
This year’s annual Cheerios ChildLine breakfast was
held on the 12th of October. The aim of the breakfast is
to raise money for the charity organisation ChildLine.
ChildLine is a 24 hour counselling service for children
up to the age of eighteen. They deal with any issues
which cause stress or concern from child abuse to
bullying. ChildLine receives no government funding
and thus depends on donations and fundraisers such
as this one.
We asked each pupil to bring in €2 for the breakfast
where they could eat their fill of various breakfast foods
served by the transition years. The options included a
variety of cereals, mueslis, yogurts and a fruit salad.
Fresh orange and apple juice were also served.
All the preparations for this fundraiser were done by
the transition years early in the morning. The food and
drinks were brought up to the school room and were
set out on various stands. Each transition year was
also given a role such as serving yogurt or handing
out bowls and spoons. Then every year in the school
took their turn to visit the school hall and get their
Cheerios ChildLine breakfast. When everyone had
left the transition years remained behind to clean up.
Overall we raised just under €350. Thank you to Ms.
Glynn, Mr. Galligan and the Transition year students
for organising the event and keeping things running
smoothly.
