The 1916 Commemoration
The day of the 1916 commemoration at the Royal School
Cavan finally came, and the proclamation was ready. The
ceremony started at 10:30am and concluded at 11:00am, it
was held in the courtyard next to the Irish flag. The ceremony
commenced with Daniel Soden playing a beautiful version
of the national anthem on the uileann pipes. There were
speeches by, Mr. Lindsay and Canon Mark Lidwill.
David Nzewi, Cian Walker and Danny McKeon then read
the “Poblacht Na Scoil Rioga”, which included our hopes
and dreams for Ireland. The Irish flag was raised when they
were finished reading it. A minute of silence was observed,
as a sign of respect for all of those who had fought and
