FOREWORD
Each year is special in the life of a school and for this reason
a Yearbook is invaluable. The pages of this Yearbook are
filled with so many memories and photographs of success
and happy times spent in Royal School Cavan. I offer my
congratulations to teachers, parents and students of Royal
School Cavan for their contribution to the success of our
school. Once again it has been a year where our students
have participated in a myriad of activities.
I am really looking forward to the staging of Footloose,
the musical. I would like to wish the Transition Year cast
in Royal School Cavan and the Transition Cast in Loreto
College Cavan every success with this project. I would also
like to acknowledge the funding we have received from the
Peace IV CASE programme that has afforded our students
this opportunity.
This Yearbook also reports on our students’ success in various school competitions and school events.
I am delighted with the outstanding achievements of our students in all areas. In particular I would
like to congratulate two of our mini-companies, ‘Wooden it’ and ‘Frame it’ for reaching the National
Student Enterprise Awards Final. I would also like to congratulate our TY students involved in ‘The Bank
of Tomorrow’ for also getting to the national finals. Congratulations to our TY Performing Arts students
who represented our school at the Fresh Films National Film Final with their original short film ‘All Cuffed-
Up’. You will have the opportunity to read about their ventures, along with many more competitions
and events that our students got involved in over this academic year as evidenced in these pages.
This Yearbook also documents the participation and success of our students in various sporting events. I
would like to acknowledge all our students who were members of our sporting teams. I would especially
like to congratulate our U17 Boys’ football team who won the Cavan-Monaghan U17b League final,
our Girls’ tag rugby team for bringing home the Virginia Rugby Club Girl’s Cup, our Junior Girls’ and
Senior Boys’ Athletics teams for finishing in 4th and 2nd place respectively at the Ulster Schools Athletics
Competition and to both our Minor I and Senior Girls’ hockey teams for reaching the final of the Meath
League.
I would like to wish our Form 6 students well in their future endeavours. It is my hope that each of you
experience success and fulfilment in whatever it is that you choose to do. I look forward to hearing of
your accomplishments. There will always be a warm welcome for you here in Royal School Cavan.
Ms. Joan Murphy and her editorial team have yet again succeeded in producing a lasting memory of the
vibrant life in our school over the past academic year. To them I offer my heartfelt thanks.
Finally, I would like to wish all our students and staff a happy and healthy summer.
