GALLERY VISIT TO JOHNSTON LIBRARY CAVAN
On the 17th of November the 5th and 6th year art classes
visited the local Art exhibition (30 Years Artists Places) that
was being held in the Cavan Library. We all walked down to
the Library during school. There were many paintings and
sculptures being displayed at the exhibition. The paintings
were displayed on a white wall, while the sculptures were
displayed on the ground or they were put on plinths. We
had a guide there to explain each of the art pieces to us.
There was one piece I found interesting, which was a piece
called “Constant” which was painted by Gary Robinson from
Longford. The painting consisted of a single tree in a field.
The paint had a very dreary feeling to it. On top of it all were
a bunch of words which gave the piece a very dream like
effect. This painting is very simple yet very effective, as it
shows how something simple can still be beautiful.
I think this trip aided us greatly as it gave us all a first-hand
Afterwards we went to the town hall which also had multiple look at how beautiful sculptures and paintings look in real
art pieces for us to look at. There was this house that had life rather than seeing them in out books at school. Overall
been made entirely out of needles. It was called “House – everyone enjoyed the day and we returned to school
The Future is Left Behind So Many Times”. The artist wanted afterwards.
to convey his feelings of people who lost their homes and
were stuck in a seemingly endless repetition of days without Conor Flint
the prospect of moving forward.
