Green Schools Committee

                                 Green Schools 2014 – 2015

The Green Schools committee has been working hard all New measures have also been taken regarding the
year. After getting a green flag last year, we have worked school’s other electrical usage. While monitoring we
hard to keep it. This has meant going back to basics and realised that computers and screens are being left on
continuing the work that earned us the Litter & Waste when they shouldn’t be. We have started a campaign to
green flag. reduce this and to encourage all pupils and staff to shut
down at the end of the day and turn off their screens.
We continue to monitor the different bins – recycling,
compost and general waste. 1st years are responsible When the monitor is left on, it uses 15% energy which
again this year for emptying the compost bins every day. could be 0% if we switch them off. We will continue with
The committee are busy monitoring rubbish around the more initiatives next year in our quest for the second
school, picking up as we go along and keeping an eye green flag for energy.
out for pupils who litter! We held a workshop to inform, Remember: A little change can make a big difference!
and remind everyone what bins to use for all our rubbish.
                                                                             Tiwani Akinlabi Trans S
We have temperature gauges in each
classroom and other areas of the school.
            The temperatures are regularly recorded
which is part of our energy audit. We aim
to keep the temperature at 18-200 which
is the optimum temperature. If we do this
we can help reduce the school’s heating
bill by 10%. We encourage teachers to turn
down the thermostat on their radiators
and switch them off if not needed.
We’re also trying to switch off lights when
not needed. We noticed that lights are left
on around the school when we don’t need
them. If there’s enough natural daylight
we don’t need lights on. There are plans
to replace all bulbs in the school with low-
            energy lightbulbs.
